Director of Risk & Compliance / System Counsel
Katie Osburne is the Director of Risk and Compliance and System Counsel of the University of Alabama System.
Katie supports the Board, its Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee, and leadership in effective oversight of a System-wide risk and compliance program designed to identify, assess, manage, and mitigate risks. This includes risks related to non-compliance with laws, regulations, conflicts of interest, strategic risks, governance risks, and reputational risks.
Prior to joining the Office of Risk and Compliance in May 2019, Katie served for four-plus years in the Office of Counsel as System Counsel, where she handled a variety of general matters including the administration of System-wide benefits, policy administration, System contract review, employment compensation matters, legislative matters, and the monitoring of System affiliates.
Katie was an attorney at Rosen Harwood, P.A. for over 7 years, practicing in the areas of administrative law with a focus on non-profits receiving government funding, litigation, and family law. Katie received both her B.S. in Business Administration and Marketing and her J.D. from the University of Alabama. She is a graduate and former Chair of Leadership Tuscaloosa, and a member of the Tuscaloosa Bar Association’s Executive Committee.
