UA System Continues to Minimize the Impact of COVID-19
By Adhering to Comprehensive Health and Safety Plan

The University of Alabama System COVID-19 dashboard reports key indicators that the extensive health and safety protocols on the three UA System campuses are effectively controlling the virus spread. The low numbers of positive cases among students, faculty and staff at UA, UAB and UAH were tallied for the week of October 22-29.

Significant results include:

  • UA reported the highest participation in sentinel testing this week since the program began, while continuing to maintain a positive rate of less than 1%.
  • At UAB, the number of student positives dropped to 52, down 9 over last week. The decline occurred following successful efforts to control transmission that could have been derived from Homecoming activities on the Birmingham campus two weeks ago.
  • In Huntsville, 257 students, faculty and staff members were sentinel tested, with zero percent positives. Of the 10,000 students at UAH, 17 tested positive this past week.
  • Clinical enterprise staff in the UAB hospitals and clinics reported zero percent positives among the 234 who received sentinel testing.

On-campus isolation housing occupancy remains low across the UA System, with only 44 total spaces occupied.

UA System student enrollment is upwards of 74,000 students. Both UAB and UAH set new enrollment records for Fall 2020 and UA reported a significant increase in in-state undergraduate and graduate school enrollment. The comprehensive Health and Safety Plan was developed under the oversight of the UA System Health and Safety Task Force. For additional information: www.uasystem.edu
