Blue Cross Blue Shield Preferred Provider Organization Plan (PPO)

UAS employees can opt into our preferred provider organization plan (PPO). The PPO features higher premiums and lower deductibles. This option allows you to pay less out-of-pocket when receiving medical care. The PPO plan pairs well with the Medical Flexible Spending Account (FSA) which gives you the opportunity to set aside pre-tax dollars to estimated medical costs for the year.

As a Participant in this plan, you can conveniently access and share virtual insurance ID cards through their myBlueCross account online or the Alabama Blue mobile app. The digital cards allow members to securely email their ID cards to providers before appointments, at check-in, or to covered dependents and their providers. In addition to viewing ID cards, the app enables members to manage benefits and contract information, find providers, and review claims.

Blue Cross Blue Shield High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP)

In addition to the PPO Plan, UAS employees have a choice in medical plans with the high-deductible health plan (HDHP) option with a Health Savings Account (HSA). The HDHP features lower premiums and higher deductibles. Participants will pay less in monthly premiums to maintain coverage, but will pay more out-of-pocket when receiving medical care. Every employee or family must satisfy the higher deductible before the plan begins to pay. After the deductible is met, participants will pay a 20% coinsurance based on the allowed or eligible charges. Once a participant reaches the out-of-pocket maximum, the plan will pay 100% of the covered expenses for the remainder of the calendar year.
