The University of Alabama System has created a task force led by UAB Health System experts to develop plans for the three University of Alabama System campuses — University of Alabama, University of Alabama at Birmingham and University of Alabama in Huntsville — to be the safest universities in America when on-campus instruction resumes.

Dr. Will Ferniany, CEO of UAB Health System.

As the COVID-19 outbreak has intensified in Alabama over the past month, UAB has emerged as one of the state’s most vital institutions in the fight to combat the disease.

The University of Alabama System — composed of UA, UAB, UAH and the UAB Health System — is on the front line of communication with media and the citizens of Alabama as we work together during this health crisis.

The University of Alabama System continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 outbreak. Today System officials issued guidance advising against any non-essential domestic travel at this time, particularly to large conferences with attendees from multiple states or locations that have declared a state of emergency due to the virus.

Effective today the University of Alabama System has cancelled university-sponsored international travel departing during the month of March. Regarding university-sponsored international travel beyond March, those decisions will be assessed as public health conditions warrant.
